Technology Initiative – Training Opportunities
The U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice
Assistance manages the Information Technology Initiative. This site is an
easy-to-use, free access web site designed to give practitioners a centralized
place to find information sharing and technology integration resources. The web
site is specifically designed to serve the justice and public safety
communities. The web site offers a variety of ways to access information and
aims to assist practitioners as they search to find needed information.
Justice Information Exchange Model
The Justice Information Exchange Model© (JIEM) was developed by SEARCH,
through funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA),
to help jurisdictions across the country document their business information sharing requirements.
JIEM enables stakeholder subject matter experts to work together to identify information sharing
requirements. It provides a structured methodology and common language promoting a standard approach
to information exchange analysis, leverages best practices from other jurisdictions by allowing users
to easily import and customize information exchanges commonly used by other justice jurisdictions,
communicates requirements to developers using tool outputs and reports, and reduces implementation
time and cost. Initially designed for the justice community, JIEM has proven effective in non-justice
government information sharing projects.
Access to JIEM, including training, is available at no cost, through funding from BJA. Visitors to the JIEM web site can sign up to get future announcements on the new JIEM Tool release, to learn of training opportunities, or to take a WebEx JIEM Quick-start Course. Note: Only individuals who have taken SEARCH training on JIEM and passed a certification exam may access the web-based JIEM Tool. If you are interested in taking SEARCH training, visit the SEARCH training web page.
