FY 2010 COPS Budget Highlights

The President recently signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act, which provides funding for COPS 2010 grant programs. Listed below are funding levels for programs that COPS will administer this year. Additional information and application materials on these funding opportunities will be available in the coming weeks:

Child Sexual Predator Elimination

$24 Million
Supports the COPS Office’s Child Sexual Predator Program, which helps officials locate, arrest, and prosecute child sexual predators and enforce sex offender registration laws.

Community Policing Development

$12 Million
Funds efforts to develop products, tools, and applied research that facilitates the adoption of community policing strategies and practices.

Indian Country

$40 Million
Funds intended to meet the specific needs of tribal law enforcement agencies.

Law Enforcement Technology

$170.2 Million
Funds earmarked by Congress to support specific technology initiatives of various law enforcement agencies throughout the country.

Methamphetamine

$40.3 Million
Assists local law enforcement agencies and task forces with developing innovative community policing responses to problems of crime and disorder related to methamphetamine usage.

Secure Our Schools

$16 Million
Supports collaborative efforts by law enforcement agencies and schools to purchase crime prevention equipment, and to provide safety training to staff and students.
