School Safety: Training & Technical Assistance

Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.)
The G.R.E.A.T. Program is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. The program's primary objective is prevention and is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership. G.R.E.A.T. lessons focus on providing life skills to students to help them avoid delinquent behavior and violence to solve problems.

National Association of School Resource Officers
The National Association of School Resource Officers (N.A.S.R.O.) is a nonprofit professional organization that provides training and certification for school-based police liaison programs. Its mission is to break down the barriers between law enforcement and youth by establishing better communication about the legal system. All N.A.S.R.O. instructors are both current school resource officers and certified law enforcement instructors experienced in training school-based police officers.

National Crime Prevention Council
The National Crime Prevention Council, funded by the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance, offers several courses to help young people address social problems and institute significant community change. The courses address youth violence, provide assistance for adults working with youth, and offer guidance on developing community-based programs.

OJJDP National Training & Technical Assistance Center
The OJJDP National Training and Technical Assistance Center (NTTAC) promotes the use of best practices and support the delivery of high quality training and technical assistance (TA) that reflect the diversity of populations within the United States. The NTTAC does this by working with the juvenile justice field to facilitate access to training and technical assistance resources and by working with providers to build training and TA capacity.

OJJDP National Youth Gang Symposium
This annual symposium focuses on innovative and successful gang-related programs and strategies, as well as providing current information on youth gang activities and trends from national experts.
