Community Oriented Policing Services U.S. Department of Justice FY 2006 End of Year Report www.cops.usdoj.gov COPS Grant Programs Glossary – FY 06 COPS METH - Methamphetamine Initiative: Assists local law enforcement agencies and task forces with developing innovative community policing responses to problems of crime and disorder related to Methamphetamine usage. Interoperable Communications Technology Program: This program partners COPS with the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) in the Department of Homeland Security to help communities develop effective interoperable communication systems for public safety and emergency service providers. Other TECH - Technology Grants: Fund projects to develop technologies that will advance community policing and help fight crime. PPSE Grant: Provide funding to advance community policing and problem-oriented policing efforts through the development of products, tools, applied research that will facilitate the adoption and implementation of training and technical assistance. RCPI - Regional Community Policing Institutes: Nation-wide national network of institutes that provide comprehensive and innovative community policing training and technical assistance to policing agencies and communities they serve. Safe Schools Initiative (SSI): SSI grants help state and local agencies with delinquency prevention, community planning and development, school safety resources, and technology development. Funding is aimed at preventing violence in public schools, and to support the assignment of officers to work in collaboration with schools and community- based organizations to address the threat of terrorism, crime, disorder, gangs, and drug activities. Secure Our Schools (SOS): Provides funding to law enforcement agencies to partner with schools for the purchase of crime prevention equipment, staff and student training, and other security improvements. Tribal Resources Grant Program (TRGP): Provides funds to tribal law enforcement agencies for a broadened, innovative hiring program to fund salary and benefits for new police personnel (Hire) as well as training (TA) and equipment (E/T) for new and existing officers.
